A Simple Process for Hiring a Legitimate, Stress Free Janitorial Cleaning Service

Have you ever tried to hire a cleaning service for your office building? If so, you’ll know that it’s difficult because we are a dime a dozen. So what do you do? Many people have found success by using the internet for positive reviews, and asking the right questions on a consult, but there are a few things you should know before you sign a contract and let any old cleaning company in your building. This post will tell you what you need to know to make sure you select a legitimate Janitorial Service that will let you have a sense of freedom.

If you’re looking for a rockstar cleaning service, the best method to ensure you end up with something that lets you feel comfortable is by looking for these things:

  • Make sure they have a consultant come out to meet you, and not just give you a price over the phone! Moreover, don’t ask them to give you a price without someone seeing the property, It will end badly for both of you.
  • Are they insured, bonded, and carrying Workman’s compensation? Best to ask before going through the entire process, and before having them come out on the consultation. This will weed out any hack companies, and fine tune your search,
  • Ask them what their Core Values are. How do they match up with your company’s Core Values? If you see they are wildly different, then you know it’s not a great fit, move on.
  • What type of employees do they have? How do they treat them? How happy are the people that work there? After all, they are the ones that will have the ALARM CODES and KEYS to your building.
  • How does the company check out online? How is their social media presence? Do they have one, and is it positive? It’s nice to see what your cleaning service is up to, and to feel like a part of their community.
  • How are they priced compared to other services? Did they come in way too low, because if that’s the case, you need to ask them why, and what they offer. There is a reason low ball cleaning services move from business to business, and don’t stick around long. If a company comes in way too low, ask to see the scope of work, and ask all the above questions!
  • Go over in detail, EXACTLY what you are looking for in a cleaning service, and EXACTLY what you would like done in your office or building. The more specific you can be, the better off the scope of work will look, and the better communications will be.
  • Last but certainly not least, is to talk openly and honestly about what it is you are REALLY looking for. Example, “I just want my toilets clean.”  See below…

What is your WHY?

Ok, well, WHY do you want them clean? Is it because you have important clients coming in and you need the bathrooms to look their best, or they won’t be impressed with you and your business, hence won’t buy from you? Now that’s a good why, which now gives the cleaning service a better understanding and a more significant purpose, rather than, “Just clean my office, OK?” We don’t respond well to, “I just want it clean”.

There’s no passion there, no real pain for us to solve. Give the cleaning service something to work towards, and give them a passion to fulfill!

Let’s Be Honest

Look, I would absolutely print this out and have a copy in the hand of whoever is meeting with the cleaning service that is going to give you the cleaning bid. This little list acts as a safeguard against any potential terrible services out there, and can really give you a good sense of what the correct way to go about finding that quality cleaning service.

Disclaimer: This doesn’t mean you won’t find a crappy one by using this, it just means you can be one step ahead, and weed out 90% of the really bad ones, to get to the gold. We know it’s not easy, but you need to be on your game, and ask the right questions so you can understand whether those questions get answered poorly, or they get answered like rockstars.

Now that you have the navigational tools to weed out every Tom, Dick, and Harry with a mop and a bucket, you should be able to keep your cleaning service for years and years to come.

So sit back, relax, have a cocktail, and watch your neighboring business shuffle through cleaning services left and right, while yours runs on a system of perfection.

Cleaning seems pretty straight forward, but common cleaning mistakes and undo some of your efforts. Here are some of the worst cleaning mistakes you can make…are you guilty of any of these?

Cleaning Mistakes You Can Make

Overusing vinegar

Vinegar has received a lot of good press lately. It’s great for lifting stains, freshening laundry and cleaning windows. We love that it’s also inexpensive and all natural. However, vinegar doesn’t clean everything, and it isn’t a good disinfectant. So if you’re cleaning the kitchen counter after working with some raw chicken, or working around the toilets, vinegar isn’t your best choice.

Cleaning Glass When It’s Sunny

How many of us notice all those stubborn streaks when the sun is shining through the windows? Our first response is to grab the cleaner and give it another wipe down. This will only create more streaks since the sun evaporates the cleaner too quickly leaving more streaks in its wake. Instead, opt to clean your glass in the early morning or on cloudy days.

Toilet Troubles

One of the most dreaded places to clean of all…the toilet. The toilet brush can be a great ally on cleaning those hard to reach places in the toilet bowl, but it can also be a breeding ground of bacteria and germs. To prevent this, lay your toilet brush across the toilet to dry after cleaning.

The Garbage Disposal is not to Dispose All

It’s tempting to throw all kinds of leftovers down the kitchen disposal. But there are many little culprits that can clog your pipes over time, including coffee beans. Instead, sprinkle a half cup of baking soda and one cup of white vinegar down the drain. Follow that mixture with a kettle of boiling hot water down the drain. This will help loosen grime and debris. Lastly, throw a half lemon, lime or orange down and run the disposal to freshen up the smell.

Using Furniture Polish to Dust

We love that fresh lemony scent that comes from polished wood. But if your furniture isn’t natural wood, it probably has a protective laminate coating. This cleaning mistake can make your furniture feel greasy and gross. Instead, wipe down with damp rag to remove the dust and dirt, and save the polish for your natural wood.

Scrubbing to get Carpet Stains Out

When the red wine spills on the carpet, it’s human nature to grab a wet rag, and start scrubbing. This will fray the carpet strands and actually work to spread the stain, instead lift it. A better approach would be to use a spoon to lift the remaining liquid and dab gently on the soiled area to get the remainder of the juice out. Once most of it is removed, use baking soda or a carpet cleaner to get the rest of the stain out.

Forgetting to Clean the Shower Curtain

One common cleaning mistake is to neglect to clean the shower curtain when cleaning our bathrooms. Bacteria and mold love to grow in moist areas like showers and bathtubs. Next time you’re cleaning your shower, take a disinfectant to wipe down your curtain.

Not Using the Exhaust Fan

The exhaust fan isn’t just for airing out a smelly bathroom. These under-utilized switches can help prevent humidity and moisture from harming a room. Turn it on during or after a shower to prevent mold from growing.

Using the Wrong Products on the Wrong Surfaces

As more and more people are moving away from chemical cleaners, it may be tempting to use natural products for everything. But beware! While vinegar and baking soda seem like obvious choices to do the heavy lifting of your cleaning, it’s important that you know what ingredients are good for. One of the worst cleaning mistakes is using acidic ingredients like lemon and vinegar to clean your granite or stone counters. This can leave visible etches and scratch marks.

Bleaching Everything

Bleach has a lot of practical uses both as a disinfectant and cleaner. It can be used to clean mold and mildew, sterilize secondhand items, clean butcher blocks and counters, whiten your porcelain, and even kill weeds. But you can have too much of a good thing. Bleach isn’t a good overall cleaner when it comes to breaking down food or buildup, and can be hard on your lungs. So use appropriately and sparingly.

Improperly Cleaning Electronics

Electronic screens are not windows, so they shouldn’t be cleaned with a multi-purpose cleaner. Even paper towels can create tiny scratches on the surfaces. Instead, use a microfiber cloth. Spray a soft mist of water on it to lift dust away.

Forgetting to Clean your Cleaning Tools

Once you’ve completed your chores, don’t throw that dirty sponge back into the sink. Instead, toss it into the dishwasher or microwave for a few seconds to kill germs. Be sure to wash your toilet brush, your rags and gloves when the job is over.

A clean environment is a healthy environment! We are all probably guilty of at least one of these cleaning mistakes. Let our professionals at Simple Clean give you the peace of mind that comes when you can relax in your clean home. Contact us today at 973-922-0836 to schedule a consultation.

The idea of having a robot to clean your house is nothing new.  Those who are old enough to remember, probably recall Rosie the Robot from the 1960s cartoon, The Jetsons.  She rolled around with her frilly apron, pushing a vacuum.  Who wouldn’t enjoy having a robot effortlessly complete all the chores we hate the most?  In the 1960s the household robot maid was probably as outlandish as speaking through the TV screen like a phone.  We all know that Skype and the Internet have made the latter an everyday convenience, so who knows, maybe one day we’ll all have our very own Rosie?  Until then, there are quite a few ways that modern technology has turned some household chores over to the “bots” to help us get them accomplished.

Robots that Vacuum

Robotic vacuum cleaners have taken the world by storm.  These disc shaped vacuums can be scheduled to run during a specific time every day and will also recharge itself when the battery gets low.  There are a lot of competitors in this space and a variety of options are available at different price points.  You can expect to pay anywhere from $300-600 for a wide range of quality in a robot vacuum.  There are some limitations with these robots, however.  If you have a thick pile on your carpets, it’s hard for these vacuums to adequately cover.  Stairs, pets and noise control can also pose issues to how well a vacuum robot will work in your house.

Robots that Change the Cat Litter

Speaking of most dreaded chores…changing the cat litter box might be at the top of the list.  The Litter Robot senses when the cat has visited and rotates a mixer to sift the deposits into the waste tray.  At $389, it’s an expensive (and bulky) robot, but might make this chore less dreadful…in the end.

Robots Who Mow the Lawn

Mowing the lawn is a chore, that if left untended, can wreak great consequences.  Now for just a few thousand dollars, your son, can set up the robot, establish the map of the yard, and sit back and sip his lemonade.  This electric mower generally requires more annual maintenance than gas-powered mowers.

Reasons to Invest in a Robot

While these are just a few of the categories of household robots available, there might be some very legitimate reasons to invest in a good robot.

Are you physically unable to do the work yourself?

If you deal with a disability, a robot vacuum or lawnmower might afford you a greater level of independence to maintain your home or yard.

Do you need help maintaining?

These vacuums have come a long way, and will continue to improve.  If you consider them as part of your support team, they can make a difference in cutting down the time of your weekly cleaning schedule.  But if you’re expecting a robot to do the heavy-lifting (so to speak) of the regular cleaning that you do, you’ll probably be disappointed.

Is your Home and Lifestyle Conducive to Robots?

Robot vacuums and similar products aren’t built for larger homes, but if you live in a smaller studio apartment or an apartment, these robots might be a great ally in your fight against dirt.  Also, if you have a pet (or 2 or 3), you know how hard it can be to keep their hair under control.  While they help keep the pet hair under control they can also get easily clogged.  Another unexpected benefit of these robots is that you might be able to start posting some great home videos of pets riding on roombas.

Consider Hiring a Cleaning Crew

Having our own house robot might still be a ways off in the future. The rise of popularity of robots is a reflection of the common desire to lighten the load of our cleaning responsibilities.  Robots can only do so much, but a real-life cleaning crew is always a great option to help you maintain your home or business.  At Simple Clean, we won’t show up in frilly aprons, like Rosie, but you can be assured that a regular visit from our crew will make you smile.  Call us today to schedule an appointment.

what-is-the-future-of-cleaning

What is the Future of Cleaning? Close your eyes and imagine the future.  Did you picture a world that resembled the Jetson’s?  Were there self-driving cars or robots doing the laundry?  While some advances seem far-fetched others are not as far away as we might think.  The commercial cleaning industry is experiencing growth and improvements and while no one knows what the future holds we are able to make some educated guesses.

Technology

Cleaning tools have become more advanced and efficient.  Think about your home’s pool cleaner.  It used to be you, with a net, patiently or not so patiently fishing out all the leaves and various debris.  Now, with advances in technology you can utilize your pool’s filter and a robotic cleaner such as a Pool Rover or Aquabot to take care of the cleaning for you.  Now, take that progress and multiply it.  Technology is making great strides and automating some of what needs to be done.  For instance, vacuum’s have not only improved with bagless options, dozens of attachments and lighter more portable options; they’ve now become automated.  Neato robotics now offers a robotic vacuum which uses floor mapping technology to vacuum and clean floors without human guidance. It automatically adjusts to different floor types and if its batteries run low, will return to the charger and then return to its cleaning duties without assistance. (https://www.neatorobotics.com/)

In addition to improvements in the mechanical aspects of cleaning tools there are also improvements in the processes used for commercial cleaning.  For example, ultraviolet floor treatments can be used to cure floors instantly.  The equipment consists of a power supply and UV lights.  Once the floor finish is dry, the ultraviolet light is rolled over the floor, sealing and curing it immediately.   This technique allows floor treatment processes to be portable and time efficient.  This is the future of cleaning.  Robotics and technological advances can make cleaning automated and more efficient.

Environmental Responsibility

The future of cleaning is not limited to technology and robotics.  It also consists of advancements in chemicals and cleaners.  There is a distinct shift in the attitudes of clients and vendors in the commercial cleaning industry to focus on more environmentally friendly and sustainable products.  The future of cleaning will continue to stress with an even greater importance the need to adequately clean while also considering the environmental impact of the chemical cleaners and packaging. Packaging can be made out of biodegradable materials instead of plastic and chemicals themselves can be reconfigured for sustainability.  Green cleaning products are now readily available with entire lines of products available such as Green Shield, Seventh Generation and SimpleGreen.  There is a distinct shift from the use of cleaners that can be toxic or damaging to the environment.  Green alternatives that restrict or eliminate the use of potentially harmful chemicals is the wave of the future.

Environmental responsibility can be further promoted with educated cleaning personnel.  Staff members that are properly trained can help eliminate needless waste of chemicals by only using the amount of product that is needed.  In addition, staff can choose the most effective cleaning product to get the job done while still being mindful of the environmental impact.  Also, when cleaning products have reached the end of their life they need to be repurposed or disposed of correctly and responsibly.

The environment and sustainability continue to be important issues and more clients will seek like-minded commercial cleaners that share their vision of social responsibility.  Going green may be necessary for those companies that want to stay competitive.

Client expectations

As the commercial cleaning industry continues to grow, the future will include technological and environmental advances but most importantly it will necessitate the growth of client communication.  In the future, clients will continue to hone the priorities that are most important to them.  Commercial cleaners that are not in tune to the needs of the client will get lost in the shuffle.  The future of cleaning will bring clients that have even less time to devote to maintenance and facility issues and have higher standards for their independent contractors.  Client communication and trust will continue to be key to developing and maintaining long-term business.

Consistent and reliable staff are an absolute necessity.  Clients must have the assurance that the people working in their facilities are trustworthy and efficient.  This can best be accomplished by providing the same staff for each facility.  Having the same personnel at a facility enables them to develop working relationships with the clients.  It also reassures the client and establishes a level of trust.  The independent contractor will also need to take on as much of the staffing and cleaning responsibilities as possible.  The commercial cleaning company will need to assume responsibility for vetting and screening staff, oversight of the quality of work, and maintaining high standards of performance.  Busier clients will mean the more workload taken on by the contracted company, the better.

While no one can predict the future, commercial cleaning is trending in ways that make it easier to anticipate what’s to come.  While, we can’t foresee robots that eliminate the need for human interaction, there are definitely continued robotic advancements coming that can be leveraged to make cleaning easier and more efficient.  In addition, the trend towards environmental responsibility continues to push advances in product and procedures.  Finally, some things such as client communication and relationship building will not change but continue to be at the forefront of the commercial cleaning industry.  Simple clean understands that finding a client and meeting or exceeding his or her expectations is not only the wave of the future; it’s the foundation for any successful business relationship and growth.  Simple Clean looks towards the future to bring the best cleaning products, processes, and personnel to our clients.

If you’ve ever wondered if you should hire a cleaning service for your business but thought that maybe the investment would not be worth it…think again!  While many feel that commercial cleaning services are a luxury that only some can afford, when looked at a little deeper, the question changes from if we can afford it, but how can we not afford it?

As a business owner, or manager, there are a myriad of details you have to keep on top of in order to run your business.  The weekly expense of paying another person or crew of people to come in and clean might seem frivolous when you already have other able bodies in your office who can help out. But sometimes it’s helpful to step back and ask yourself what resources am I using by not hiring professionals to come clean? Likely, you’re taxing your own people to do more, and step outside of their expertise to do something beyond their scope of employment.

So whether you’re setting up a new business, or you have an existing business without a regular professional cleaning crew, it might be time to evaluate how setting up a cleaning service for your business is actually good business.

Healthier Environment

There is much more to keeping a work space clean and sanitized than just regularly picking up.  Our experts know what to do in order to ensure a clean and healthy environment.  Additionally, as dust builds and germs are spread through every day contact, you can increase your risk of respiratory and sanitary hazards.  We don’t like to think about it, but surfaces all around your office are crawling with germs and bacteria that can cause sickness.  A proper office cleaning helps to regularly reduce those germs and therefor keeps your office healthier.

Greater Productivity and Better Morale

Chances are you’ve hired your staff because of their expertise in some area.  It probably wasn’t because they were professional cleaners.  When asking employees to pick up the slack and help with the cleaning this can greatly diminish the overall productivity of the office.  A properly trained and qualified cleaning crew helps alleviate this burden from your employees and will also result in giving your people permission to excel at what they do best.

Good First Impressions

We’ve all been told not to judge a book by its cover.  But let’s be honest…we all do.  Making a good first impression to your clients, potential clients, and even your employees is important.  A clean environment tells the public that you care about people.  A clean environment also allows you to get noticed for the things that you’re really passionate about.

Convenience

Consider the peace of mind that comes when you walk into your office after it was cleaned the night before? It smells good, it looks good, and it feels good.  Our cleaning services come at a time that is convenient to you.  Our staff can take care of your cleaning needs after the close of business so as not to disrupt your productivity.  Starting your day in a professionally cleaned space is a wonderful way to start your day!

Peace of Mind

We understand that your home and business are extremely personal to you.  Our professionals help free up your time to focus on more important matters, like providing great services and products to your customers.  When you know that things will be maintained and cleaned regularly you are freed up to spend your time on more important matters.   At Simple Clean, we understand that a customizable plan is what’s best for our customers.  Just as no two businesses are the same, our cleaning services are not one size fits all and be fully customized, to meet your individual needs.  At Simple Clean, our commercial cleaning services aren’t just for the privileged few, they’re for everyone.  You’ll soon discover how cleaning services for your business is smart business.  Call us today at 973-922-0836.

The easiest way to make cleaning manageable and effective is to have the best cleaning tools available.

“Cleaning is just putting stuff in less obvious places.” (https://quotesgram.com/house-cleaning-funny-quotes/)  Cleaning is an activity very few people love, but it is a very necessary task.  In a business environment cleaning is especially important to keep your employees healthy and your workplace visually appealing to clients and customers.  Keep reading for the essential tools you’ll want to have for your commercial cleaning.

  1. A great vacuum. One of the top tips to a clean office is a quality vacuum to lift and remove daily dirt and grime. The first thing you need to consider is what you are primarily going to use the vacuum for.  The floors of a business are often the most used areas in the building.  If your floors are primarily carpet you will need to invest in a heavy duty vacuum that can handle repeated use and pull the dirt from the carpet fibers.  A bagged, upright vacuum might best suit your needs as these types tend to have the best suction.  You should also compare the vacuum to your physical needs.  If you are going to be using the vacuum on stairs and tight spaces, it will need to be lightweight and mobile.  If your primary need is a flat, easily accessible surface then a heavier vacuum may not be a problem.

Before purchasing your commercial vacuum, consider the maintenance and accessories.  Is there a warranty?  Does the vacuum need bags or filter replaced?  If you are comparing the price of several vacuums make sure you taking into account the cost of replacement items.  Also, do you need accessories?  If you need to clean drapes, furniture or unusually shaped nooks and crannies make sure that your vacuum choice comes with the necessary tools to get the job done.  Depending on your needs, the Dyson Cintec and The Shark Rotator both rank highly in reviews.  (http://www.smartreview.com/product-reviews/top-rated-vacuum-cleaners)

  1. A mop. Some floors need a little extra attention. For tile and laminate use a sanitary mopping system.  Traditional mops use cleaning solution and water and simply loosen the dirt on the floor and then move it around to dry and continue to soil your floor. Instead, opt for a reusable, more sanitary solution.  You can purchase a more traditional mop but try one that uses replaceable microfiber pads that can be reused and put through the washer and dryer to be sanitized.  If you invest in several pads they should last you some time and help keep your floor clean and germ free.   A steam mop is another option that uses microfiber pads and hot steam to clean and kill germs.  When using a steam mop it is important to vacuum first and then follow the directions closely to prevent damaging your floors.
  2. Toilet brushes. The restrooms are another place that harbors germs. Try using an angled brush to effectively reach and clean under the toilet rim. You also need a brush that has strong, durable bristles.  An added feature of a good toilet brush is an enclosed caddy that keeps the brush isolated from your other cleaning products.  If you don’t have a caddy or other enclosure available, be certain to disinfect your brush after each use and don’t cross contaminate places such as the sink and tub.
  3. Appropriate cleaning products. If you are concerned about going green, you need to choose environmentally friendly products. If you are cleaning a facility that has children, such as a school, it is important to use strong cleaners that don’t contain bleach or other harmful products.  Disinfecting hospitals will have unique challenges and need extra strength products while still adhering to any mandated rules regarding what can and can’t be used.  Each business or facility will have its own product needs and limitations.  Be certain you have done your research and find an effective product that meets your needs and is approved for use.
  4. All-purpose cleaners: A cleaning tool that is helpful to always have on hand is an all-purpose cleaner such as liquid pine sol original. It’s always good to have a convenient, do it all cleaner available. According to http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/news/2015/10/best-bathroom-cleaning-products/index.htm pine sol original is a high ranking all-purpose cleaner that doesn’t leave streaks on glass surfaces.  You want your counter tops, desks and mirrors to be clean as well as presentable to clients and customers.
  5. 6. Quality toilet paper. While it may not seem like a priority, toilet paper should not only be comfortable it should also meet the needs of your plumbing system. Pay close attention to how the paper disintegrates to prevent pipes from clogging.  Your toilet paper should be affordable, comfortable and pipe friendly.  One brand that received the highest marks in all these areas is Cottonelle Ultra Comfort Care.
